I've recently returned from a 2000 Km trip around the Spanish Pyrenees on my KTM 690 Enduro R and it was a painful experience. Whoever designs seats at KTM is a sadist. So now Im looking at a new seat at around £350. I don’t want one based on the KTM seat pan as these can snap Im on my second in 18 months The only one that fits the bill seems to be the Touratech one has anyone had any experiences of an aftermarket seat for a 690 ?

Have you thought of one of those air hawk things? or perhaps getting the existing one re covered (a good shop should be able to brace / sort the wek spots while at it? and probably less than the touratech equivalent?

got any pics of your tour?

I'm looking at a seat concepts seat from the US still £250 though. I like the AirHawk but it will add a couple of inches too an already tall bike

I feel your pain, the 701 is ok but after riding a CB500X it feels like a plank but still better than any BMW seat Ive owned. Didnt know the KTM had a weak point with the seat pan???

Yes the seat pans on the ABS models were redesigned to accommodate the extra electronics. Quite a few places in the know wont recover the stock pan. Seat concepts I the states can ship a new seat for £250. I'm thinking that I will leave the 690 as is and not use it for prolonged long distance trips. Its a great bike but just way to painful when your doing 250 miles each day.

Did you ride many trails? As we found lots on Wikiloc. We managed 100 miles on trails the 60/70 on road max per day .

We rode lots of trails around Berga, Austin Vince gave me a map with about 50 routes all tested by him and Lois. Each one was about 40-50 miles long. I created some GPX files for some of the routes and stuck them in my satmap.

Yea Berga is just surrounded by great trails. I'm definitely going back but it will be on my newly purchased 990 or with a couple of 250's transported in the back of a van.

Actually, the Airhawk raises you up surprisingly little as they work at their best with practically no air in them, mm, not inches! My little Honda NX4 has had a modded seat to gain 50mm, a gel seat to gain another 10mm and the Airhawk, which adds 4-5mm but makes it a dream for long hauls...
