Thetford Safari 17-18-19 May 2013 Who's Going? 5 years, 10 months ago #5648

I've kicked this years off with a couple of names on the list below, but haven't assumed anything about plans for the remainder of you guy's.
Could I ask that anyone who wants to attend adds their name below and indicates how many people, plus whether they'd like a trail or road ride?

We have trail ride leader in the form of EC, however if anyone prefers to have a day out on the roads SGR has kindly offered his services to lead a road ride for those that are taking pillions or just want to view some of the amazing places that the surrounding countryside has to offer.
This really isn't one to miss as he knows some great roads with even better destinations / places of interest.

All that's left to add is we hope that this years Safari will be even better than the last couple of years, and we wish all attendees a very happy and memorable time.

A brief history behind the event.

Those of you who attended will know what a great time we had at last years event; born from a meeting of XRV and ABR forum members, we all camped at Applewood camp and caravan park, Banham NR16 2HE for a great weekends riding and camping... www.xrv.org.uk/forums/ride-reports-pictu...th-april-2011-a.html
With some some great trails and fantastic company; this years promises to be even better, with plenty of smiles per mile.
Below are a couple of pictures from last year, plus a recent one to whet your appatite.

The group ready for the ride.

A mixed bunch enjoying the trails

Stopping for a photo or two

Water water everywhere....

The site and trails

The site is situated in rural Norfolk within a short ride to the start of the trails.
It boasts full facilities, with clean toilets and showers on site, with a shop close by and an all important Pub just across the road.

Legal Stuff, and reminders

We appreciate that there is a temptation to switch off when it comes to the headings above, but please take a moment to read the following; even if it's to reaffirm what you already know.

Legal.
Whether you select a road or trail ride, you are governed by the same laws, to which your motorcycle must be taxed, mot'd and insured.
Now that might be stating the blindingly obvious, however it's easy to forget to renew an mot, or tax etc.

Reminders.
We at ATR take the view that we are guests to the countryside in which we are fortunate enough to enjoy.
As such we take pride in sharing the environment with other users whether they are motorised, on foot or on horseback.
There may be certain peculiarities concerning walkers, to which we quite often come across people walking their dogs, which can be off leads.
It goes without saying that it is good practice to bear in mind the needs of horse riders, the normal courtesies apply, plenty of room, slow and as quiet as possible is appreciated.
Finally 99.9% of users are just like you and I, I.E. enjoying the surroundings; however there could be the odd idiot who wants the trails all to him or herself, please treat them with respect no matter the provocation, and report any incidents to the organisers, who will take appropriate action.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Group discount

Last year we enjoyed a discount on the camping due to the numbers of attendees; we are hoping that with enough people, the camp site will at it's discretion extend the same offer this year.
We will do our best to try and make this happen.

TARIFF UPDATE 03-05-13
DanH has negotiated the charges down from £12.95 per tent per night + an additional £2 per extra person per night, to an astonishing £6 per tent per night + £1.50 per extra person per night.
I'm sure the rest of you guys will echo a big thank you and well done to him.

Yes you guessed it, trail for me.
If you only have one plug, it needs to be a good plug!

Trail ride may be tricky with a pillion so we could lead a road and river tour without the cycle Tour of Britain getting in the way! I hope ??

Thanks for doing it mate, I see that it's generated a fair bit of interest already.
When I get some time I'll tailor the lead page from this thread and post it over there.

There is a way in which you can do the trail ride, which involves Gaffer ape and handcuffs!
Or is that more of an Apres Trail activity?

Thanks for taking the lead on the road mate, very much appreciated.
I'll update the info pronto.
