I'm having to stay in UK this year as money and time are tight. So i'm thinking of exploring Scotland, as
Dad got me a book for Xmas.

So i'm think of doing the tour of Scotland in the Book.

Loch Lomond to Skye and back, some 500 miles or more. May 28th - june 5th. Travel up on the weekend, ride the back roads of Skye and the Highlands for 5 days and return the following weekend. It will be all road apart for maybe a quick dip in the dirt.

1000 miles Approx Norfolk - Loch Lomond 400+ miles, 500 miles tour , 400+ miles home

I intend to travel lite. Camping mainly with a couple of nights in a B&B, weather depending.

Your welcome to join me and a few of us that have expressed an interest, though place will be Limited to 6 as I don't want to spend the whole time herding cats

Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you're gonna be up again. But life goes on.

I have the same book on my wishlist. Want to do the North Coast 500. Sadly, I don't know my availability yet. Take plenty of pics!

To be that close to Applecross and not go ?? Very worth while going IMHO

Done three tours of Scotland and loved each one, covered a lot of ground you will have fun on this chosen route. You will want to go back for sure lots and lots to see especially further north and west side

MIke
Id rather be cleaning my very muddy bike than driving a car

Get riding or get dying

Applecross is only 1 hour off the route near Skye. I will defo be going there as I hear it's the only Alpine pass in UK. After coming back from the Pyrenees I can't wait to see hills again. ( I live in the Fens)

I`ve done all of those roads in the past and I can honestly say you will not be disappointed!!!! Somewhere not mentioned that is worth a look because it is absolutely gorgeous is Plockton - Just as you come off Skye via the bridge...it can take a bit of finding but trust me on this, take the minor road to get to it and have a camera ready!!

just had a look at Plockton as you come off Skye. I think we will go that way then to get on to the road A890 up to Applecross. thanks.

Keep the ideas coming folks as this is what its all about. We could of passed this purported gem , now not so.

When you say "nearly all road" do we mean proper tarmac type roads?

Was thinking about my Honda CB1300 - wont be taking that on a lane. If dropped, will damage the countryside and take 3 of us to pick the bugger up.

Just be sure that you are outside of the Midge season,as we found out a few years ago those things can bring plenty of misery.

BTW as an aside both Ben and I are Scottish Lairds, and your welcome to camp on our land at Lochabar.
THE END OF THE ROAD IS THE START OF THE FUN

Have fun and believe you me, you will. The bummer about the West Highlands is that it is so far to bloody well go! I work on getting North of the Hell that is the Manchester conurbation before the scenery is decent. You guys coming from the east will have a different set of problem areas/...

I have been fortunate enough to have ridden all the roads you have highlighted Ferdie and you will not be disappointed. I prefer to avoid the A82 "in season" it's full of caravans and buses, move West and it's quieter. Spend some time working a good route coming back through the Borders as they can be every bit as rewarding as the Highlands to ride... Half and hour with Best Biking Roads will sort you a cracking route.

TP is spot on about the 'effin' midgies, they are evil! Get on the coast and you will be OK. I stopped on a cracking "midge free" site South of Oban, so good I stopped 2 nights and travelled out from it to tour each day. Here Nice and easy to get into Oban for beer and GREAT fish n chips!

Ardna is a fun ride out to Sanna point, some of the Scots lads off the XRV forum I have ridden with like to wild camp on the beach there, but I like a shower and a sit down loo at the end of a day's riding
