Hi Ben

Chris Chandler should be coming but he can only make it for the ride on Saturday, he'd like to know what time we will be setting out so as not to miss us?

Cheers

Rog

I'm planning to come over on Thursday with the bike in the van. I'm bringing a tarp as well as a tent and something to cook on etc--very light blue old Fiat scudo with blue side decals. The hope is to ride both friday and saturday?--I have a map (explorer 229) but also my Garmin has full OS. I ca also probably dig out some old tracks--but I guess you "locals" know your way around!! The weather looks reasonable with the odd shower --and thankfully cooler than now!--are we planning to sit about and have the odd bevvy also? (so that I can bring some stuff).

Yes the craic is as good as the riding, there'll be plenty of time for beers and silly chatter. Last year we did a group bbq on the Saturday with proceeds going to charity, which we may look at reprising for this year.
If you enjoy riding bikes by day then chatting and listening to all manner of silly talk over a drink or 3 and hot food as the sun sets then this is the place.
If you only have one plug, it needs to be a good plug!
July 14 - still true, but now have two plugs!

It’ll be fantastic to see you Nick!

@Catcitrus - there’s a shop over the road and a pub and a chip shop/ kebab house....

We may well do a bbq and raise some funds, I propose a hospice that’s local to me who cared for my dad (and a founding member of the Safari) throughout his battle with Cancer and they’ve been priceless in supporting my Mum in the year or so after he passed away.
This year would’ve been his 60th birthday so we will probably have a drink at the pub for him!

Can't wait, not long now. My precious is still covered in taffy Dakar mud. But we have a more pressing problem.

Fern clutch cable snapped last weekend and we have struggled to sort it in time. So in true safari style the bike will arrive at Banham with no clutch cable. They are difficult to find as Its a discontinued item.

So on Friday night we have 3 cables to try. Who will fix it, know one knows (probably Ben) but everyone will pitch in because that's how the safari goes..and just hopefully she make the start line on the iron donkey.

Ferdie--what model and year?--WEMOTO carry a lot of stuff?--and it could be common to similar models--the key is at least the same overall length and the right(ish) inner to outer relationship. In the past I have been brutal and removed the cable end ferrule paired back the outer and snipped the coil off with wire cutters, pressed the ferrule back on--all assuming that its gone at the nipple, and assuming that you have a bit of slack in the length----and then resoldered another nipple (or used a cable repair kit). I'm leaving shortly but will have a root around to see what I may have lying about.
ps I'm bring over a couple of trousers--one good O'neil MX and one BMW safari--short leg--both about 36 waist--BMW free to a good home and a decent offer for the O'neil. Also for you Ferdie some side panel protectors--just to look at!

It's a 2003 made Yamaha TTR600RE. I have done loads of research on this and it's no longer available. I was hoping a Yamaha XT600 cable would do the trick, otherwise a cable repair kit for now to tide it over then get Venhill to copy the old cable which will take a couple of weeks. Just bad timing.
