Thetford Safari 2015 pictures from the camp. 4 years, 3 months ago #10494

First of all, and at the risk of sounding like a parrot a huge thank you to one and all for making it to the safari.
Also a special thanks to Outsider, GB, and SGR, who although they weren't staying made the effort to ride over to say hello.
Your presence really does make it all worth while and your company is very much appreciated; and while we sadly say goodbye to 2015's, we look forward to 2016...... lets hope to see you all there.

As you'll no doubt gather, this isn't a ride report but instead a pictorial look at the weekend from the perspective of being in and around the campsite.

Friday.

Ben and I arrived in Thunderbird 2** just in time to find Ferdies DRZ playing up.
Tom and Dan had already diagnosed excessive end float on the input shaft causing the gear lever to foul the engine casing.

Umm I wonder if we can get enough clearance, by filing the back of the lever down?
BTW, If you are considering a DRZ in the future, this is an accepted mod to help save the wafer thin cases in the event of a fall.

With the gear lever completed, Phil, the Doctor, Ferdie and Ben, decided to take in a few trails.

Phil was keen to get going, but not before..........

Ben said a prayer to Trailus, hoping for a good and uneventful ride.

So far so good.

"I say Dan do you think that praying will do them any good?"
"I don't know it might"

And so our intrepid trail riders line up for the off.

Ferdie.

Ben.

The Doctor.

Phil.

They had only been gone for 10mins, when Phil arrived back calling for Thunderbird 2 to pick up Ferdies stricken bike.

After loading the bike, Phil and the Doctor decided to go exploring by themselves, with the aid of a map and sat nav.

Have a nice ride boyz.

"OK I'll rephrase my last comment.... it might, then again it might not!"

Some new and some more familiar faces start turning up.

Meanwhile the demise of Ferdies bike, wasn't to be the only set back.....
Looking at the picture you see The Doctor and his car, nothing unusual about that right?
Wrong!
As it transpired, The good Doctor had forgotten his tent fly sheet, thus forcing him to sleep in said car; now henceforth to be known as the CARDIS!

Below are some pictures from the evening gathering, with lots of alcohol consumed, also with side dishes of stories and lots of bollox talked.

Somewhere in this picture is Outsider / Paul who despite the late hour rode over to say hello.

Saturday.

Saturday dawned and Ben arose with some news from the internet....
Apparently if we stripped off the clutch cover off of Ferdies bike we may have been able to fix it and get him going on the days ride; so to work.

Alas, and despite our collective best efforts there wasn't to be an easy fix as it looked like the gearbox was goosed.
On reflection, it's looking like Trailus has it in for Suzuki's at the Safari...
Remember last years, and Udders DR?
So after reassembling the bike, everyone started to get ready for the off.
NB:- The person with the baseball cap on is SGR, who stayed with us around camp for most of the day.

The stricken DRZ looking sad as her friends are going off to play.

"I wonder if that engine fits my DRZ?"

The runners and riders.

As far as the riding is concerned, that's all the pictures I'd taken, or is it?
When everyone had returned I was having a wander around and came across this....

Nick was giving Tracy her first lesson in riding a motorcycle.
I must say she was very impressive and mastered it like a pro, well done.

Later on in the afternoon / evening GB visited us aboard his new X Challenge.

Very nice it is too.

Some of the bikes parked up for the night.

A fire pit of sorts, Dan's BBQ loaded with Ahem cooking fuel.

Some more pictures from around the Fire I mean barbie.

Sunday

And so to the final pictures of the camp.
I woke up to this most peculiar sight.

Apparently, the CARDIS wasn't the most comfortable place in which to slumber; especially when the alarm keeps going off through the night, so the Doctor used his inner tent, and covered it with his bike cover.

Thunderbird 2 loaded up with an extra bike.
Oh well if you want rainbows you've got to have a little rain.

Well that's your lot, I know they're not exciting, but I hope they reminded you of yet another excellent Safari, with great people and a fantastic craic.

Great camp view write up TP
Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you're gonna be up again. But life goes on.

Nice one TP It's great to have a reminder of the weekend I didn't take my camera and my phone was in use as navigation so unfortunately no pics from the trails, in all honesty they would have been of Phil having a lay down with his bike or an alfresco bath while in his bike gear
